Prayer: Session 18

In this session and in the remaining weeks, we focus our attention on prayers & Catholic practices.

Now that we've learned the Church's teachings & dogmas on the Bible, the Creed, Mary & the Saints as well as the Seven Sacraments, the question remains how do we apply these teachings in our own lives. As I've stressed during this evening's class, "In the past couple weeks, we took look a look at the Sacraments. Remember, in the sacraments we receive God’s “grace” That grace is God, Himself. Put in another way: when we receive the sacraments, God first calls us to Him, then we respond 'Let it be'  by celebrating the sacraments that Christ instituted. In that celebration, God offers Himself; His grace. In the next couple of weeks, we will look into other ways that God calls out to us. It is God who inspires us to pray."

This evening we've learned what is prayer and what are the traditional Catholic prayers. Before looking into the Catechism of Catholic Church or our books, try to answer this question yourself. What is prayer? Then go back and read what the catechism says. Click here for the catechism to read on. You will find that your understanding of prayer may not be that much different than that of the Church's teachings; certainly there will be more information in the catechism but very similar to what is in your heart. If you find that this is true, it can only mean that this is God reaching out to you; calling you to conversate with Him, spend some time with Him; better still, pray.

Please review the PowerPoint presentation in PDF with my notes for more information.
Also, I asked that you answer question number found on page 478 (end of chapter 35) and go on to read chapter 36 for our next session.  Additional Handout: Prayers
